PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device and a storage device controlling method capable of processing a program that is stored in a storage device where data are sequentially read and random-accessed. SOLUTION: A ROM 21 for booting stores a control code for transferring a device driver stored in a NAND type flash memory 5 to an area 31 for instruction storage, and a controlling part 1 reads the device driver from the flash memory 5 by reading the control code and performing the control code and stores the device driver in the area 31 for instruction storage. The controlling part 1 randomly accesses the area 31 for instruction storage, executes the device driver and substantially realizes random access in one-byte unit to the flash memory 5.
