PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for sure and rapid positioning tables shown on documents, such as technical drawings. SOLUTION: A table structure in a document is located, that is detected by analyzing its sub-area (that is, a crop). The analysis comprises determining of location of lines linger than a threshold and assigning groups to these lines. When a separation distance, that is the interval between a pair of adjoining lines is less than the threshold the pair of adjoining lines are assigned to the same group. A crop selected as the location of the table structure is such that it has a group having the maximum number of lines. When applying the method to locating of a title block shown on a technical drawing, it is preferable that the crop be analyze corresponding to the corner or end of the document. It is useful to analyzed the image of the document with a reduced resolution. The table structure in the document is located, that is, detected by analyzing its sub-area (that is, a crop).
