PURPOSE: To realize a liquid crystal display, in which a small sized low breakdown strength driving circuit is formed on a same substrate, where a display section is located. CONSTITUTION: Besides the drive circuit which supplies gradation voltages to pixels, a circuit is formed for reducing the pixel potentials. Signals, having positive polarities, are written into the pixel electrodes, and the potentials of the pixel electrodes are reduced by using the capacitors connected to the pixel electrodes, after the writing.
