<p>A screening method whereby the prediabetic state can be more accurately judged without loading any physical burden to patients and a large number of specimens can be treated; and a diagnostic to be used therein. The concentrations of D-mannose, preferably the concentrations of D-mannose and glucose, in body fluids collected from subjects are measured and respectively compared with standard levels, thereby finding out patients in the prediabetic state. The mannose concentration is measured by treating mannose in a sample with an enzyme capable of oxidizing mannose via dehydrogenation in the presence of an electron acceptor and then quantifying the reduced electron acceptor thus formed.</p> |
