POWERED BAND CLAMPING UNDER ELECTRICAL CONTROL

Tensioning of a band clamp (34) about an object under electric control is provided using a control system (42) operably connected to a banding system (38). The banding system includes: a band tightening assembly (46) including a mandrel (200) about which the band tail portion can be wrapped during the ba nd tightening operation; a band cutting/locking assembly (50) including a removable cutting device (320) used in forming the lock and severing tail portion; and a band ejection assembly (54) used in removing the severed tail portion from the apparatus. The control system preferably includes a load ce ll (210) that outputs an electric signal related to the actual tension being applied to the band clamp during the tightening operation and an input/outpu t device (62) for receiving and outputting information related to the function s performed by the banding and control systems.
