A COATING COMPOSITION FOR INK JET RECORDING MEDIA AND COATEDMEDIA

A coating composition for ink-jet recording media which comprises colloidal silica and a synthetic resin emulsion which is obtained by emulsion- polymerizing (A) a radical-polymerizable unsaturated monomer having a silyl group with (B) other radical-polymerizable unsaturated monomer(s) copolymerizable therewith in the presence of a radical-polymerizable surfactant and which has two or more different glass transition points (Tg); and an ink-jet recording medium obtained by coating with the coating composition. The medium is effective in obtaining a further improvement in gloss, improvement in weatherability, and sufficient conformability to stres s changes caused by bending, while maintaining that rapid ink penetration into the ink-receiving layer which is inherent in a cast coating layer.
