The invention relates to a method for vacuum treating porous materials consisting in placing the materials to be treated in a container (20) which is then hermetically closed; filling said container (20) with a suitable solution from a preparation tank (22) or a storage tank (21a); creating the vacuum inside the container (20) for a selected period of time; and returning the inside of said container (20) to atmospheric pressure. The aforementioned steps are repeated as many times as necessary with the selected intensity and times. The inventive method is particularly suitable for treating hides.
