<p>The invention comprises improved web-processing apparatus. The webprocessing apparatus comprises an improved dryer (10') with air-turn apparatus (11) for flotatingly supporting a web (13) and, preferably, for changing a direction of web movement. The air-turn apparatus (11) may be used in the web dryer (10') or with other suitable web-processing equipment, particularly in applications where a coated web side (17) faces the air-turn apparatus (11). Preferred forms of the air-turn apparatus (11) comprise a body (89) having an outer surface (97) defining a web flotation zone (95) facing a coated side (17) of the web (13) and a plurality of openings (239) in the body positioned along the web flotation zone. An air-conducting conduit (261) provides pressurized air to the body and body openings thereby forming an air cushion (241) at the web flotation zone (95) on which the coated web (13) is flotatingly supported without contacting the body (89).</p> |
