[Also in Division D1] Dyeable articles are made from compositions comprising a crystalline olefin or aryl-substituted olefin polymer and 1 to 20 weight per cent of a reaction product of an epoxy resin which is a reaction product of epichlorohydrin with a dihydric phenol such as 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane having terminal oxirane groups and an amine containing a primary or two secondary amine groups. The reaction may be effected in the absence or presence of a solvent at 50‹ to 250‹ C., or in situ in the polyolefin, e.g. during granulation or spinning. Specified polyolefins are polymers of ethylene, propylene, butene-1, pentene-1, hexene-1,4-methylpentene-1, octene- 1 and styrene. Specified amines are n-dodecylamine, n-hexadecylamine, n-octadecylamine, piperazine, 2-methyl piperazine, 2,5-dimethyl piperazine, 5,5,7-trimethyl homopiperazine, and N,N<SP>1</SP>-diisopropyl-, N,N<SP>1</SP>-dicyclohexyl- and N, N<SP>1</SP> - diisobutyl - hexamethylene diamines. Examples describe the preparation of fibres from compositions comprising polypropylene and reaction products of the above epoxy resin with (5 and 6) n-octadecylamine, (7) N,N<SP>1</SP>-dicyclohexyl hexamethylene diamine and (8) 5,5,7-trimethyl homopiperazine. |
