The device has an actuator element for an automatic vehicle transmission. The element is constructed to conform to palm surface and fingers of a driver. It has a mainly dome-shaped knob (2) with a section to support the palm, and a section to determine the position of the fingers. Part of the knob projects from a housing (3). The knob has an integrated press stud (7), and a gear change signal for the transmission is generated by two-step-operation of press stud and knob.
