A parallelapipid-shaped housing(1) for the driving(2), intermediate(5) and driven(4) shafts and gear wheels is symmetrical relative to a plane(16) parallel to the two end faces(9). The end faces have bores with machined faces for bearings supporting the driving, intermediate and driven shafts. A thrust bearing(13) for the driven shaft is located in its own housing(14) which is mounted on one of the two identical end faces of the transmission unit.
