The bus system has at least 2 TTCAN data busses (B1,B2), each connected to a different set of subscribers (101,102; 105), with further gateway subscribers (100) connected to both data busses, for providing a coupling between them, the fault tolerance for the bus system scaled in dependence on the number of subscribers connected simultaneously to both data busses.
