Processing system (10) comprises a first machine tool assembly (12) having a first workpiece holder (20) and a first processing unit, a second machine tool assembly (14) having a second workpiece holder (20') and a second processing unit (38'), and a support unit (16) held on the first and second machine tool assembly in a functional position. At least one part of the first machine tool assembly is adjustable along a first line and at least one part of the second machine tool assembly is adjustable along a second line not parallel to the first line. The parts of the first and second machine tool assembly are adjustable along the first or second line relative to each other to transport the workpiece between the first and second machine tool assembly. Independent claims are also included for a method for processing a workpiece using the above processing system and for alternative processing systems.
