摘要 <p>An object is caused to transmit a tera-hertz pulse light generated by a generatig unit. The transmitted light is measurated by a sensor to determine the amplitude ransmittance and the phase difference of a predetermined frequency. From a formula representing the relation among the determined values and the complex index of refraction of the object, the complex index of refraction of the object is determined by successive approximation. This formula reflects the multiple reflection of the tera-hertz pulse light inside the object. When a new approximate solution of the complex index of refraction is determined by successive approximation by giving an approximate solution of the complex index of refraction, the transmittance for the light to emerge from the surrounding medium and enter the object, the transmittance for the light to emerge from the object and enter the medium, and a term based on the multiple reflection are handled as known values determined by the given approximate solution.</p>
