An electro-mechanical tensioning unit with a hydraulic support for a finishing machine, especially for an injection molding machine, comprises two tensioning jaws (11,13), one of which is movable with respect to the other, and a pushing gear mechanism driven by an electric motor, which moves the jaws along a drive guide (12). The movable jaw is divided into two sections (16,17). The first jaw section can be moved along the guide and can be locked to it, and one of the two jaws has a cylinder (33) whose piston (32) is coupled to the pushing unit. The tensioning unit is closed by the pushing unit, which draws the jaw coupled to it against the other jaw. The tensioning unit is opened by a second cylinder. The parameters and threshold values used in the control of the machine are stored.
