Polymer print surface is exposed to plasma discharge and laser light to create hydrophobic and hydrophilic print surface

A process to apply a first hydrophilic coating and a second hydrophobic coating to a printing surface (4), comprises a polymer surface layer. The polymer (4) is especially first exposed to a plasma which endows the surface (15) with hydrophilic properties. The surface (15) is then exposed to a laser which converts the topmost layer into a second surface (16) with hydrophobic properties. An Independent claim is also included for a commensurate assembly to treat the polymer surface, with first (1) and second (2) electrodes linked to a voltage source (5).
