The present invention provides a dental hygiene device made of synthetic composite material comprising a fibre or a plurality of fibres, and a matrix around the fibre or fibres and between the fibres. The fibre or plurality of fibres and/or the matrix are made of ceramic material. Examples of dental hygiene devises are toothpicks, interdental brushes, individual bristles in toothbrushes, dental flosses, dental tapes, and dental adhesives.
