PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catching body which is adequately usable in various fields, including a medical field and industrial field, is excellent in biodegradability and safety and is capable of selectively catching only the catching object by specifically acting on the catching object and an inspection apparatus using the same and adequately detects the catching object. SOLUTION: This catching body has a structurally variable body which is variable in structure by a stimulus, a rod-like body which is <=810 nm in length and a catching structure which specifically catches the catching object by bonding to this rod-like body. A form which exhibits structural color development, a form which is changed in color development by changing of the structure of a structurally variable body, a form that the structurally variable body is a geometric isomer, a form that the structurally variable body is an azobenzene compound, etc., are preferable. This inspection apparatus has at least the catching body, containers housing the catching object and a sample liquid and detecting means for detecting that the catching body catches the catching object.
