PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a filter rapidly and easily performing the treatment of a waste filter medium while automating the washing of a filter main body and making maintenance free, and a waste filter medium forcible separator. SOLUTION: The filter has a filter unit which has the filter main body having a fine gap group for accumulating a filter aid comprising porous fine particles, the inlet and discharge openings communicating with the filtering front space of the filter main body and the outlet opening communicating with a filtering rear space of the filter main body; a filter aid precoating system for applying a liquid flow containing the filter aid from the inlet opening of the filter unit to the outlet opening; a filter system for applying the liquid flow to be filtered to the filter unit from the inlet opening to the outlet opening; a backwashing system for applying the liquid flow to the filter unit from the outlet opening to the discharge opening; and a waste filter medium forcible separation system having a waste filter medium separation tank receiving the fluid containing the filter aid and foreign matter washed off by the backwashing system and having a filter provided to the lower part thereof and applying compressed air to the liquid surface of the waste filter medium separation tank to forcibly separate the filter aid, foreign matter and the fluid. The filter aid precoating system, the filter system and the backwashing system are selectively operated to operate the waste filter medium separation system during the operation of the filter system.
