PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the separation performance of a horizontal type centrifugal separator, and to attain the energy saving and the cost reduction of the separator. SOLUTION: For this centrifugal separator, a screw conveyor is housed inside a bowl 1 to be rotated at high speed. The bowl 1 is formed into a horizontally long conical cylindrical shape whose diameter at a front part is made larger than the one at the rear part, a discharge port 7 for separated liquid C is formed on the rear end wall of the bowl 1 and a suppression ring 21 is projectingly arranged on the front part inner periphery of the bowl 1 provided with a sludge discharge port 6. On the rotary drum 11 of the screw conveyor 10, a supply port 15 for source liquid (a) is formed on the rear part, a suppression flange 23 is projectingly formed on the front part of the rotary drum 11 toward the suppression ring 21 and a narrow discharge path 20 for heavy components is formed between the suppressing ring 21 and the suppression flange 23. Thus, solid-liquid separation efficiency is substantially improved.
