The present invention provides an aluminum pigment having a high grade of optical characteristics, such as a high brightness and a high flip-flop effect. In particular, an aluminum pigment having a mean particle diameter d50 of 5-35 mum, a ratio of the mean particle diameter d50 (mum) to a mean thickness t (mum) of 30-90, and a mean surface roughness Ra of 20 nm or less, is disclosed. A method for manufacturing the aluminum pigment of the invention is also provided.
