PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the amount of hot water discharged when power is turned off. SOLUTION: This electric water heater is provided with a hot water discharge means 8d for discharging the liquid in a container 1 holding the liquid, an unlocking means 7 for enabling the discharge means 8d to discharge hot water while a commercial power supply is connected to the heater, and an operating means 5 for enabling the discharge means 8d to discharge hot water by directly driving a power storage means 9 which serves as a power source when the commercial power supply is shut off. Thus, the lowest service voltage of the power storage means 9 is made even lower to enable efficient use of energy remaining in the power storage means 9.
