PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems with a vacuum cleaner, that when the lower limit of tilting of a handle is provided near the lower limit of the normal range of tilt angles for cleaning in order to float up the front edge of a head to suck large sizes of dust, a space of low height, such as a space under a bed, cannot be cleaned as the handle cannot enter the space, that if the lower limit is provided near the horizontal, the front edge of the head cannot be floated up, that a long handle cannot be turned down horizontally when in a small space, and that a rotary brush or the like occupies a suction opening in the lower surface of the head, making it impossible to suck large sizes of dust. SOLUTION: The lower limit of the tilting motion of a handle is elastically locked, for example. Large sizes of dust are sucked by a head lift in a locked condition, and the head is stepped on and tilted further downwards to allow the head to escape from the elastic lock and enable the handle to be tilted downward to near the horizontal so as to enable even a space of low height to be cleaned. The rear of the handle is made bendable upwards at its middle so that even a small space of low height can be cleaned by making only the front part of the handle horizontal. A large-size dust suction chamber is provided near a head suction pipe and away from the position of the rotary brush to create a large opening in the lower surface.
