An electronic control device (10), in particular a motor vehicle control device, is proposed which contains a microcomputer (11) and at least one non-volatile memory (14, 16) and an input/output circuit (15). At least one sensor (21) whose signal is evaluated by the microcomputer (11) can be connected to the input/output circuit (15). In order to evaluate the signal of this sensor (21), at least one reference value which serves for example to adjust the signal of the at least one sensor (21) is stored in the control device (10). The microcomputer (11) of the control device (10) is designed in such a way that it automatically detects the signal of this sensor (21) in a specific operating state and forms the reference value from it.
