The present invention discloses a method for mapping ATM cells in an HDSL line system. According to the invention, 32 ATM cells, each comprising 53 bytes are mapped into one HDSL frame. This is the maximum integer number of ATM cells that an HDSL frame may contain. According to a first aspect of the invention, the remaining space in the HDSL frame is filled with additional bytes by adding one extra byte after each 53 byte. According to another aspect of the invention, the remaining space is filled with single bits (so-called bit stuffing), that is; adding one extra bit after every 53 bit. Both aspects provide a more effective use of ATM in an HDSL line system. |
