PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exchange system exhibiting high maintenance at updating and to provide an updating method and a program. SOLUTION: The control program of an intrinsic unit is downloaded from a system control processor to the intrinsic unit by using the exchange system. In the system, the system control processor stores version number information and version number depending data which comprises data where a data structure and a value concerning the applicable intrinsic unit are defined, requests the version number information of the intrinsic unit to the newly added, etc., unit, stores the obtained version information of the newly added, etc., intrinsic unit, retrieves whether version number depending data to be applied to obtained version number information of the newly added, etc., intrinsic unit exists, requests the version number depending data of the unit to the newly added, etc., intrinsic unit when no data exists and sores obtained version number depending data of the newly added, etc., intrinsic unit.
