SUBSTANCE: blood sampling is conducted in a child with toxic diphtheria diagnosis, serum is separated, dried and suspension is prepared in vaseline oil; IR-spectroscopy of the obtained sample is performed by registering the absorption spectrum in area of 1200-1000 cm-1, one should determine the height of absorption strips peaks with maximums at 1170, 1165, 1150, 1140, 1130, 1100, 1070, 1025 cm-1 to calculate the values of the following peaks heights ratios: to determine the value "M" - maximal one out of the values obtained and value "m" - minimal one out of obtained ones; D is calculated being D = M - m; average value for peaks heights ratios - "c", at values D >= 0.98, M >= 1.39, c >= 0.89, m <= 0.5 one should predict a severe disease flow with the risk for lethal result; if even one value of D < 0.98, or M < 1.39, or c < 0.89 or m > 0.5 it is possible to predict severe disease flow with favorable result. The method is carried out at lower expenses and decreased number of personnel. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 3 ex, 2 tbl
