1,245,602. Electric couplings. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 11 Dec., 1969 [13 Dec., 1968], No. 59342/68. Heading H2E. Connections to a dry cell having a central positive electrode 11 and a cylindrical negative can with a bevelled inner edge 10 are both made at one end of the cell by means of spring contacts 30, 40 respectively which are fixed to a square insulating plate 20 having a central hole (21, Figs. 2, 3, not shown) and an integral bush 22. Contact portion 31 is fitted upwards into the hole (21) and tabs 34 folded over two edges of the plate 20 to retain the contact 30. Ring portion 41 of the contact 40 is so fitted over the bush 22 that tabs 44 may be folded under the other two edges of the plate 20. The positive electrode 11 is located within the bush 22 on the contact portion 31 and the connection to the cell can is made by tabs 46 on two semicircular spring arms 45. Connecting leads are usually attached to a tab 34 and a tab 44, but a separate connecting tab (64, Fig. 10, not shown) may be provided. The invention is described in relation to a hearing aid (Figs. 18, 19, not shown) having two cells in series but other uses are suggested. The tabs 44 may be omitted if the inner surface of the ring 41 is serrated. Alternative contact forms are described including single and composite wire springs (Figs. 13-17, not shown). |
