PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-mounted oscillator whose manufacture is facilitated by increasing the area of a board surface on the side of the other major surface of a case body. SOLUTION: The case for surface-mounting is provided with a depression, whose circumference is surrounded by side walls on each of its major surfaces. At least a quartz piece is housed in the depression on the side of one major surface, and a circuit device is provided in the depression, on the other major surface for forming the surface-mounted quartz oscillator, and in this case, a pair of facing sidewalls on the side of the other major surface are left open.
