PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently use a recording medium by suppressing a required quantity of substitute areas in a disk recording medium having a plurality of recording sectors each comprising lines in each of which two product codes are interleaved for each line. SOLUTION: There is provided a defective sector discrimination means or a defective sector discrimination step that divides each of lines in a sector into two sub groups on the basis of to which of two product coded data each line of each sector has belonged and judges whether a sector is defective on the basis of the number of lines where errors cannot be corrected in each subgroup so as to attain substitute recording by the slipping system for each sector.
