PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform machine translation between similar languages more adequately by an easier method compared with conventional technology. SOLUTION: A word graph generation part 1 extracts the expression of a target language corresponding to a matching language expression by referring to a translation dictionary containing pairs of expressions of at least one target language for at least one expression of a source language for a sentence of the source language composed of an inputted character string, generates a combination of expressions of the target language in the form of a word graph, and stores it in a word graph memory 2. A retrieval and selection part 3 compares the word string on the word graph stored in the word graph memory 2 with corpus data of the target language by referring to the corpus data to count the appearance frequencies of the words in the word graph in the corpus data, then calculates the score of a translation of the target language corresponding to the sentence of the source language, and selects the optimum translation of the target language according to the calculated score. |
