PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device that can composite a wide dynamic range images by itself and also by using external devices. SOLUTION: The imaging device 1 is provided with an LE, SE(long exposure, short exposure) buffer 8 that stores a plurality of images with different exposure picked up by a CCD 4, an SL(super latitude) compositing circuit 12 that applies super latitude(SL) processing to the images to generate a composited image having wide dynamic range, a fitness evaluation circuit 14 that evaluates whether or not a photographing scene is proper for the SL processing by the SL synthesis circuit 12, an image quality evaluation circuit 15 that compares the composited image with the image prior to compositing to evaluate the image quality, and a recording form selection circuit 20 that selects either of a plurality of the images or the composited image a recording circuit 21 records, on the basis of the operation input from a key entry circuit 18 and the result of image quality evaluation.
