PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver whose operability is enhanced by allowing a user to confirm contents of a program broadcast on each channel during execution of automatic scanning to register a channel through which a program is broadcast to a channel map. SOLUTION: When detecting a channel through which a program is broadcast, while the receiver 1 executes the automatic scanning to register the channel through which the program is broadcast to a channel map, the receiver extracts a video signal for one screen of this program and stores it to a storage section 5. The receiver generates a synthetic image by attaching an image denoting the channel to the video signal for the one screen stored in the storage section and an output section 4 outputs the synthetic image. Thus, the user can confirm contents of the program broadcast on each channel during the execution of automatic scanning so as to improve the operability.
