PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern data collating system, capable of checking consistencies in all data including data of low possibility of being consistent, without omission and without deteriorating collation performance, even when many file pattern data are the objects. SOLUTION: A pattern data collating device collates the consistencies of a search pattern data and a file pattern data using collating program, collating parameter, search pattern data and many file pattern data transferred from an upper level device, and replies back a list of file pattern data to be considered, which have the possibilities to be consistent in each search pattern data sorted according to degrees of approximation to the upper level device. The pattern data collating device stores the lists of file pattern data to be considered in plural collation result storing domains according to the collation result which stores domain designating index of the file pattern data, and reports the list of file pattern data to be considered of each collation result storing domain, as a collation result to the upper device for enabling visual confirmation.
