PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plane scanning device capable of reading an original image with high definition, even if the component precision is not high. SOLUTION: A pair of L-shaped glass frames 54 are fixed on the upper surface of each of ribs 12a. On a rear side (lower surface) 54c of the top end part of a plate 54b of each of glass frames 54, an upper surface 52a of both the end parts of an original platen glass 52 in the direction of width is fixed by a double coated adhesive tape (not shown) or the like. The upper end face of a spacer 62 of an image sensor 60 is abutted against the rear side 54c of the pate 54b. Accordingly, the image sensor 60 is positioned with the rear side 54c of the plate 54b as a reference. This rear side 54c is positioned on the same plane as the upper surface 52a of the original platen glass 52. As a result, the image sensor 60 is positioned with the upper surface 52a of the original platen glass 52 being set as the reference.
