SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MONITORING UNALIGNED MEMORY ACCESS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simplified solution to monitor, count and trace unaligned memory accesses by an application program without building any complex software emulator. SOLUTION: This system (30) monitors the unaligned memory access by a processor (32) of a computer system (30). The processor automatically generates a fault when attempting the misaligned memory access. Unaligned memory access faults are disabled in response to a fault generated by a first faulting instruction (228). The first faulting instruction is executed (204). A trap is generated by executing the first faulting instruction (206). Unaligned memory access faults are enabled in response to the trap.
