PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device and method for transferring data capable of fetching information of base data so as to meet a user's will and improving a data compression effect with the required data stored. SOLUTION: A data receiving device 1-2 is provided with a receiving data specifying means 1-8 for specifying data to be received, a feature specifying means 1-9 for specifying the feature of the data, a data receiving means 1-10, and a information displaying means 1-11. A data transmitting device 1-1 is provided with a data generating means 1-7 for generating data or fetching stored data, a data feature extracting means 1-5 for extracting the feature, a data transmitting means 1-6, and a data transfer control means 1-4 for controlling data transfer. The means 1-4 acquires the data specified by the means 1-8, transfers the feature which is extracted by the means 1-5 from the data acquired by the means 1-7 on the basis of specification by the 1-9, to the device 1-2, and transmits the data after transferring the feature of the data.
