PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching mechanism allowing a thinner keytop, if not guided to a keytop guide member during depression, to be surely returned to a position where it is guided to the keytop guide member after released from depression. SOLUTION: The switching mechanism comprises a depression member 30 arranged on a first switch contact 21 with a depression portion 31 for depressing the first switch contact 21, a second switch contact 22 arranged on the depression member 30, the keytop 40 arranged on the second switch contact 22 for depressing the second switch contact 22 and keytop guide mechanisms (guide portions 57, 58) for supporting the keytop 40 movably up and down, wherein a keytop position holding mechanism is provided for holding the keytop 40 at its position by the contact of the depression member 30 with the outer periphery of the keytop 40 when the keytop guide mechanisms (guide portions 57, 58) are malfunctioned to cause the keytop 40 to be depressed and the second switch contact 22 to be turned on.
