PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a hybrid stepping motor wherein the number of its phases can be increased without increasing the number of its magnetic poles and its resolution and its precision can be improved without requiring a complex control circuit. SOLUTION: In a stator S1 of the hybrid stepping motor, its respective magnetic poles 3a1 -3a6 are so arranged as to provide its first and second magnetic poles alternately and adjacently to each other. Each of its first and second magnetic poles is made line-symmetrical with respect to the shape of its magnetic pole. Its first magnetic pole and its second magnetic pole, which is displaced in a constant direction from its first magnetic pole by the 1/4 pitch of the pole teeth formed in it, are so arranged axially that they intersect each other. In each first rotor magnetic pole 10A1 of a first unit rotor RA1 , each pole tooth 10a1 is formed opposite to each pole tooth formed in each magnetic pole of the stator S1 . In the first unit rotor RA1 , each second rotor magnetic pole 10B1 having the same shape as each first rotor magnetic pole 10A1 is displaced in its circumferential direction for 1/2 pitch of the pole teeth 10a1 from the first magnetic pole 10A1 and fastened via a permanent magnet 9 to the first rotor magnetic pole 10A1 . Further, the first unit rotor RA1 is opposed to a first stator portion having the first magnetic pole of the stator S1 . Moreover, a second unit rotor RB1 having the same shape as the first unit rotor RA1 is so displaced in its circumferential direction for 1/4 forming pitch of the pole teeth 10a1 from the first unit rotor RA1 as to oppose it to a second stator portion having the second magnetic pole of the stator S1 . In this case, a number Z of the pole teeth of the rotor is set to 6n+1 or 6n+2 (n is an integer not smaller than one).
