A super-plastic deformation step is carried out using pressure, tensile and/or shear force and followed by heat treatment in the presence of an electrical field generated using a (pulsed) dc current or an ac current within the microwave region. : Preparing ceramic or composite components with a complex geometry and tailor-made mechanical properties comprises a super-plastic deformation step followed by heat treatment of the partially or fully compacted component in the presence of an electrical field. The components contain an inter-granular glass phase. The electrical field is generated using (non-)contacting electrodes and a (pulsed) dc current or a monochromatic or multi-chromatic ac current within the microwave region. Super- plastic deformation involves forming the desired component geometry by plastic deformation of a partially or fully pre-compacted body using pressure, tensile and/or shear force. Heat treatment is carried out at a temperature greater than that required for super-plastic deformation. The end product contains long and narrow interwoven particles. |
