The lying device for use in road vehicles, particularly mobile homes, vans, small buses and people carriers, comprises a sheet-type textile, which with one end is wound onto a shaft. When the device is required for lying, the textile is unwound from the shaft and its free end (21) opposite to the shaft is fixed in fixture devices (15,9) conected with the bodywork or parts of the vehicle. In order to achieve an acceptable lying-posture on the textile sheet, the shaft end(s) (17) have a ratchet drive (18) with a changeover mechanism to produce a correspondingly tightened state.
