The method determines the actual traffic situation for traffic situation reconstruction and-or traffic prediction based on the determined locations of mobile phones. Each mobile phone is uniquely identified by a corresponding identification number, so that the location of identified mobile phones at sequential times can be determined. The density of phones and their locations are used to determine traffic behavior.
