The cartridge insertion magazine on the rear side has a slot (28) in the magazine wall through which the finger of a cartridge ejector penetrates a cartridge transporting mechanism (64-71) in order to reach the cartridges (72) direct or via intermediate components, and to move the cartridges out of the magazine and/or to open the magazine lips (26). An Independent claim is included for a device for the transporting of cartridges from a magazine in which a breech block (62) with its initial movement towards the cartridge chamber (53) acts upon a part which moves the finger of a cartridge ejector which moves the uppermost cartridge from the magazine and/or opens the magazine lips holding the uppermost cartridge.
