1,150,857. Fuel cell cathode containing a tungsten oxide. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 15 Sept., 1967 [30 Dec., 1966], No. 42101/67. Heading H1B. An electrochemical cell i.e. a fuel cell or an electrolytic cell has, as a cathodic reduction catalyst, an oxide of tungsten of formula WO x where x is >2 and <3. The cathode may be constructed of tungsten oxide compressed on to a metal screen with or without the use of a binder or waterproofing agent e.g. polytetrafluorethylene. An example describes the use of WO 2À7 ,on Ta in a half cell using 30% H 2 SO 4 at 86‹ C. Hydrogen potentials and current densities are reported in oxygen and nitrogen. |
