<p>The drum (12) has fluid-permeable walls (22, 23, 24) and turns in a watertight casing (11) holding wash fluid. It includes an inlet (31) and drain (33). Casing and drum each include an opening for insertion and removal of the objects washed. The casing has an overflow (35) passing wash fluid through a filter (36). The overflow is below the upper edge (45) of the drum and especially above half the height of the drum. The drum rotates about a horizontal axis and has a radially-outer opening for insertion and removal of objects to be washed. The feed (31) is near the base (13) of the casing, especially in an end face (14). The drain (33) is located centrally in the base of the casing. A wash fluid heater (43, 44) is located in the casing, especially on an upright end or the base of the casing. The wash fluid is recirculated from the overflow via a return line to the supply (31). Drain and supply have electrically-actuated valves. At the end of the wash cycle, the fluid is removed from the casing, especially at a liquid level descent rate of 10-30 cm per minute.
