Apparatus and method for hemostasis of an artery having a puncture after arterial catheterization, the apparatus includes a catheter introducer having a forward end and a hemostasis device (100) including an elongate flexible hollow shaft (102) having an inflatable anchor balloon (124) at a forward end thereof and an inflatable hemostasis balloon (150) adjacent the forward end of the flexible hollow shaft (102), the hemostasis device (100) being arranged to be insertable into artery via the catheter introducer.
