The shut-off component has a flow path with an inlet and an outlet, with a movable pipe (5-7) connected to the outlet (4). A shut-off element (12) is in functional communication with a lift component (14) which shifts the shut-off element into a position freeing the flow path if the lift component is in a fluid with a specific gravity lower or higher than that of the lift component, and shifts the shut-off element into the closed position if the specific gravity of the fluid is correspondingly higher or lower. Independent claims are included for a use for a shut-off component for the opening and closing of a pressure relief pipe in a storage tank for combustible liquids, and for a procedure for the storing of a liquid in a tank in which the tank is filled to a maximum amount whereby at least one shut-off component is not fully in the liquid regardless of the orientation of the tank.
