<p>The invention relates to a phosphated, hydrophobically modified polysaccharide which provides soil release benefits when incorporated in laundry detergent or fabric treatment compositions. The modified polysaccharide is a graft copolymer of a polysaccharide having phosphate substituents with an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, the copolymer having a polysaccharide backbone carrying grafted hydrophobic vinyl polymeric groups derived from the ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and phosphate substituents, preferably obtained by reaction with sodium tripolyphosphate.</p> |
