Measuring device for non-contact measurement of the properties of a moving metal belt (1), especially in a cooling stretch of a hot rolling train, moves in the region of the measurement path and can measure every specified position in the longitudinal and transverse direction of the measurement path. An Independent claim is also included for a process using the above measuring device. Preferred Features: Non-contact measurements are made also during movement of the measuring device. The measuring device has a measuring carriage (2), a measuring arm (3), a swing gear (4), and a measuring head (10). The measuring carriage can be moved alongside and over the entire length of the measurement path.
