A plant having the ability to synthesize a copolyester from a monomer derived from a C4-7 fatty acid. Provides are: a fusion gene comprising a gene coding for an enzyme synthesizing a copolyester from a monomer derived from a C4-7 fatty acid and bonded to the gene a gene coding for a peroxisomal targeting signal sequence; a vector containing the fusion gene; a transformant containing the fusion gene; and a process for producing a polyester with the transformant.
